What is IPX9K waterproof testing?

IPX9K is a waterproofing rating standard used to assess the waterproofing of electrical or electronic equipment in high-pressure, high-temperature jet water environments. The standard is primarily applicable to the automotive industry and is used to test the effectiveness of automobiles and their components against water, moisture and dust ingress under severe road conditions.


The test conditions for the IPX9K standard are as follows:
1. Pressure: A high pressure water jet is used to carry out the test at a set pressure, usually in the range of 80-100 bar (800-1000kPa).
2. Temperature: During the test, a jet of high temperature water is used, usually at a water temperature of 80°C. The test is carried out using a high pressure water gun at a set pressure.
3. Distance: The distance between the water jet and the equipment under test is usually about 10-15cm to ensure that the water stream is able to fully impact the surface of the equipment.
4. Duration: The duration of the test is usually 30 seconds and covers spraying in different directions to simulate a variety of situations that may be encountered in real-world applications.
The IPX9K standard test is mainly designed to simulate the waterproof performance under extreme conditions, to ensure that the vehicle and its components are effectively protected from high-pressure jet water intrusion in daily use, especially under harsh road conditions, so as to ensure their proper function and reliability.
